Ursai Shikami is a 26 year old male. He hails from Mistral, and is a graduate from Haven Academy. Ursai is a part of the unofficial team KURO, and is Oleander Thorn's partner.

Appearance[]

Ursai is very tall, standing at 190 cm. He has a heavily muscular build. He has black hair, cut to a sidefade, with the rest of his hair draped over his eye. He has hard red eyes which almost glow in the dark. He has a large claw mark across his left upper arm. While he mostly wears combat gear, due to him being a known Hunter, as well as mostly in some kind of fight, he has been noted to wear casual clothes when in public or when scouting a target. These clothes often consist of a vest with black chinos. Normally, he doesn't wear anything under his vest, electing to show of his arms.

His body is very defined and muscly, after training at Haven, as well as being an active Hunter for 6 years. He is a culmination of strength and endurance, unlike all of his teammates, who are all more focused on intelligence or agility.

Combat Gear[]

However, as said, you will mostly see Ursai in his combat gear. His combat gear consists of a plated vest with an underarmor shirt, both in a matte black. His weapon is holstered on a magnetic plate which goes along his spine. On his legs he wears plated leggings, with the plates covering his knees, lower leg and even his shoes, something that is not often seen. This is due to Ursai's preference for strength, instead of movement. On his shoulders and elbows, he wears a set of metallic guards, with internal storage for Dust capsules. These are used for his weapon.

He will normally wear a ballistic mask as well, which has Grimm markings on it, much like the White Fang. However, Ursai is not a part of the movement himself. He has, however, used it to spy on meetings and such.

Utility Belt[]

Just like all of his teammates, he wears a belt with certain things needed for missions. However, unlike his teammates, he is the only one to carry explosives. His utility belt consists of a black leather belt, with magnetic locks on it. He usually has rope, a metallic grappling hook, wire, wire cutters, and as mentioned, explosives, and a variety of whatever is needed of him.

Personality[]

Ursai is a bunch of muscle, with a remarkable intellect, despite his little care for using it. Ursai has lived the hard life of a Hunter for 6 years, and has been very successful. In his first three years, he took on certain jobs that gained him a reputation in Anima as an effective Grimm eradicator. However, this only served to inflate his ego. This all ended with Ursai accepting one of his first non-Grimm related jobs; to get information from a Mistralian executive. While he was successful, this wasn't enough. He continued on, molding him into the man he is today. He is a bit arrogant, but he is much more quiet and less boasting.

He is a quiet person. He is a lone wolf. He is quite cold, and doesn't seem to have anything to lose. He has yet to say not to a job, which is both due to his little care, as well as ego. When he is working with someone else, he usually takes little regard of what they do, instead focusing on exactly what he is doing. He shows little regard for most people and their well being. With one exception. His mother. With his father having died during a mission as a Hunter, his mother is his only remaining family. As of now, she is the only weakness he has. However, it is a secret he holds close.

In combat, he changes a bit. He becomes aware of his accomplices and partners, and makes an effort to protect them. Not out of kindness, but because he knows that Kyran wouldn't go past getting rid of a lousy asset to team KURO. He uses his bulk and strength to take out heavy hitters, as well as take the blows that his teammates can't take. This, topped with his Semblance makes him an invaluable defensive fighter.

Relationships[]

Kyran Chrom[]

Ursai and Kyran didn't start of on the best of terms. Ursai was hired to extract information about the group Kyran led after they gained some notoriety. However, with Kyran being a good manipulator and having access to certain things that could help Ursai take on greater jobs, he joined them on a rather shaky trust. However, with time, Ursai gained a begrudging respect for the youngest on the team, as he saved his life from a Deathstalker, as well as showing his incredible skill in various fields, such as tech and combat. Still, to this day, the two are the farthest away from trusting each other out of the four members of team KURO.

Revan Thanatos[]

Revan and Ursai met during Ursai's interrogation of Kyran. And Revan was in the beginning extremely antagonistic towards Ursai due to his treatment of her "master". With time, this eventually changed, as Kyran convinced her of Ursai's use to the team, as well as certain events that lead to the two having to fight together on a regular basis. This lead to the two becoming excellent combat partners, as they respected each other's varied skill sets, and how they complemented the others. Currently, Ursai is very indifferent towards Revan, and she is the same in return.

Oleander Thorn.[]

Ursai had a soft spot for the young thief, finding him a bit charming and a relief from Kyran and Revan's intimate partner relationship. With Oleander having little fighting experience, it is often Ursai's job to protect him as he does his job. Ursai has a respect for him, as his skill set is very unique and hard to master. They make an excellent combo in combat, as Oleander can control his opponents with his Needle Point, while Ursai batters them away. While having a soft spot for him, he has mentioned several times that his lack of skill is a liability for them all, something Oleander has taken to heart.

Akaku Shikami[]

Akaku Shikami is Ursai's mother and the only person he truly cares about, except for himself. The two were exceedingly close, after his father died during a mission in outer Anima. Ever since that, Ursai has been the one that has taken care of his mother. He does truly care for her, and is terribly afraid that anyone will find out that he has a weak point. Especially his team. Especially Kyran.

Weapons and Abilities[]

Primary Weapon: Deathrend[]

Deathrend is a heavy two handed, two edged, transformable "keyblade". The reason for the classification as keyblade is due to it's appearance. Deathrend's blades run down the entirety of the handle, creating a proxy guard around a user's hands. It is a strength weapon, and is slow to use. The handle itself is colored a matte black, while the blades are polished silver. They are made from a titanium/aluminium alloy, which is there to retain a chunk of the titanium's sturdiness, but is lightened by the lighter aluminium. The blades have carved blood drains, which form into an elegant design down the sides of them.

When transformed, this weapon transforms into a railgun. The blades move to create a magnetic launched, while the points bury into the ground, making this a stationary weapon. This is needed, as Ursai is not strong enough to hold the weapon through the recoil, without using a rather awkward technique of transforming it into inactive mode with the recoil. However, with his Semblance, this weapon form is somewhat viable. This ranged form is not possible to quickfire, unlike most weapons.

The railgun uses heavy caliber Dust rods, metallic rods filled with volatile Dust. These measure approximately 20 cm in length and 4 cm in diameter. While he has tested numerous types of ammunition in his time, he has a preference for Lightning Dust, as it has a better effect on the rounds as a whole. However, he has access to Fire Dust cartridges and Ice Dust cartridges as well. He stays away from Gravity Dust because they have some unforeseen consequences with them.

Abilities[]

Enhanced Strength and Endurance[]

Being an active Hunter, and having focused on his strength through his whole life, Ursai is quite the powerhouse, both strength-wise, as well as looking at his endurance. With his long training and experience, he is able to take an incredible amount of punishment, as well as dishing it out.

Martial Art Expert[]

Ursai is an expert of unarmed combat, as well as with his heavy Deathrend. He is a practitioner of Jiu Jitsu, at a real world level of a shodan, a first level black belt in the Japanese form. He focuses heavily on upper body hits and grappling, using his massive form and upper body strength to benefit him in combat.

Grimm Knowledge[]

Having been a Hunter for 6 years, Ursai is highly knowledgeable of Grimm and their strengths and weaknesses. He is capable of swift kills, as long as the Grimm isn't too large. He can, for example's sake, take out a Beowolf easily, while he may have trouble with a Deathstalker if on his own.

Semblance[]

Ursai's Semblance is called Prism. The Semblance involves Ursai summoning prisms of energy, which can be used defensively. He can summon several prisms at once, up to 5 as of current canon.

Each prism has several factors as limiters. The more complicated the prism is, the more Aura it will take to keep up. This means that the more facets said prism has, the more difficult and demanding it is to make appear. For comparison's sake, a triangular pyramid prism is the simplest prism that can be summoned, and can be done with ease, in comparison to a 42 faceted orb prism, which is the most advanced prism Ursai has used to date, something he could only hold up for 3 seconds, despite his training.

The second limiter is the size. The bigger the prism is, the harder it is to keep up over time. This forces Ursai to find a balance between prism complexity and size. His favorite one so far is a decigonal prism, or a ten-faceted prism that he can hold around himself.

As for Aura usage, these are dependent on size and complexity. If he summons a small (a base of 50 cm3 ) pyramid prism, he could easily keep it up for hours, with minimal loss of Aura. If it came under attack, it would lower to about 30 minutes, as it would have to hold up against the force of the attacks. However, the noted 42-faceted orb prism drained him completely of Aura within 3 seconds. The prisms you see, while somewhat taxing to summon, can be sustained by a third of the Aura used to summon it. The prisms therefore adhere to how plasma works in the real world, where it needs a large initial energy flow, before it can be sustained at up to third of the energy. The lifetime of the prism is therefore dependent on Ursai's remaining Aura.

While using Prism, Ursai's body will seethe with his black Aura. The prisms also take on the color of his Aura.

Moves and Techniques[]

Prism Break[]

This move is sparingly used, as the energy requirements are quite high, comparable to the effect of it. This is done by Ursai trapping an opponent inside a prism, and slowly decreasing the size of it, crushing the individual. This is a technique he mostly employs when trying to get information.

Golf Swing[]

This is a technique employed by Ursai and Oleander in unison. This is done by Oleander holding the person locked with Needle Point, before Ursai knocks the opponent to high heavens with Deathrend.

Backstory[]

Ursai was born in Mistral to two loving parents. His father was a recognized Hunter, while his mother, Akaku, is a teacher at Sanctum Academy. Ursai was very much fostered up to become a Hunter, due to his parents either being one or training them. He started combat training early in his life, training with his father in Jiu Jitsu, as well with general weapons like knives and handguns. When he was old enough, he started his time at Sanctum Academy. With his training picking up and him creating his weapon, he grew in strength exponentially. He was high up when it came to combat training and sparing, both through school and his sporadic training with his father. Then, tragedy struck for the family, as his father died during a mission, leaving Akaku and Ursai alone. This happened when Ursai was 16 years old. He finished his time at Sanctum, before being accepted to Haven, with flying colors on the physical tests and slightly below average on the technical tests. His time at Haven was rather uneventful. He was focused on making himself stronger, even with his mother being slightly against him pursuing a career as a Hunter, after his father's recent death. However, this empowered Ursai to strive even harder.

Hunting Professionally[]

After his time at Haven, Ursai went out to work as a Hunter. While starting out, he took on small jobs, which there was several of in the land of Anima. He started out with Grimm Eradication and guarding travelling caravans. He found it simple, but enjoyable. He was effective at killing Grimm, even with the slightly higher Grimm activity in Mistral. His first big job was eradicating a den of Grimm, a year and a half into his career. This mission changed him forever, as it was difficult for once. He managed to complete the mission successfully, only getting a claw wound from a Beowolf that surprised him. This made him a bit high on his own skill, which only got worse with time.

The Fall[]

Things changed once Ursai took on a mission that would be considered less than elegant. He was paid handsomely to get information from a high up Mistralian executive. He was rather successful, using his size and strength, as well as his Semblance, to force them to talk. After this, he continued taking on these kinds of missions, up until he took the mission to find out who Kyran Chrom was.

Meeting the Team[]

Ursai met his future team by accident. After misjudging Kyran and his abilities, he found himself caught in a trap, with a whip around his neck and a scythe to his throat. After being convinced by Kyran, he eventually joined them on a shaky trust and the promise of profit. This changed to a respect for most of them, even as annoying respecting Kyran was. This led him to where they currently are, the raid on the Chrom estate and the kidnapping of Neel Chrom.

Current Timeline[]

As of current canon, with Ruby and the rest of team RNJR going to Mistral, Ursai and team KURO are held up in an unknown location in Atlas, deciding how to use Neel Chrom to further their goals.

Trivia[]

  • Ursai is fully inspired by an Ursa, with his colors. However, his Aura is a bit ironic.
  • Ursai is meant as a mirror of team CRMA's Michael Carmine, as they are both equated to Ursas, Michael by Caden and Ursai in literal sense.
  • Ursai's name, while not directly a color, it makes you think of the Grimm, which makes you think of black, white and red. His last name means death god if you translate it directly from Japanese without considering correct grammar.
