Find your way and strive beyond the stars -Polaris Motto

Polaris College School is an academy designed to train Hunters and Huntresses. However, it also doubles as a school for continuing education.

Overview[]

Polaris takes the form of a floating artificial island akin to the floating city concept, close to the seabound borders surrounding Mistral. It is currently located in the Kingdom of Mistral.

Background[]

Polaris was an ordinary school, from the moment of its inception. However, decades of scandal, power abuse, corrupt bureaucracy, and the poor teaching quality, both inside and outside the classroom, plagued the school. The students were suffering from dropouts, among disciplianary and academic troubles. But then, a group of graduates from Beacon Academy saw this, and decided to employ themselves at the school, believing it necessary to reform it, exploiting the school for its full potential. After a few years of a teaching degree, the Beacon graduates were accepted as employees out of sheer desparation, after periods of neglect in the Mistral society, including their local Council (in favor of Sanctum and Haven). Within a decade, the school had risen from the ashes of decadence thanks to new, unorthodox reform methods, with graduation rates increasing and reports of academic misconduct decreasing. Thanks to a wealthy sponsor, the school expanded, providing greater resources for students. The Hunting program, which existed before the decade-long reform, was being improved to the point where it was approaching par level with combat schools such as Signal and Sanctum Academies. However, a decade isn't enough time to turn a school once lagging behind in Mistral's education standards, and the current dean, wishes for it to constantly improve over time, hoping to someday be on par level with advanced Hunting Academies such as the prestigious Beacon Academy, or the rivalling Haven Academy, as a bare minimum.

Curriculum[]

Hunter Program The Hunter Program is designed to teach students on how to be the Huntsmen and Huntresses of tomorrow. The curriculum is slightly stricter than similar schools, requiring not only the standard courses of Hunter Academies, but also several civilian subjects as a means of insurance should being a Hunter prove unsuitable.

In terms of difficulty and quality of education, Polaris' Hunter program is at least superior to combat schools such as Signal and Sanctum Academies, but is inferior to Hunter Academies such as Beacon and Haven.

Notes[]

I knew that the requirement for a fanmade school cannot be on Beacon level. I realized that many schools were portrayed as top-tier. Yet I designed Polaris to portray a school that improves from being onto a level of an low-income, inner city school, to a level aiming towards top-tier academies like Beacon, similar to how a character improves. The trick is that while the school is quite wealthy, the teaching quality leaves much to be desired.

Trivia[]

  • Polaris is named after the North Star, used to guide and direct travelers in the night. It keeps up with Beacon and Signal's light motif. It also creates a possible star motif for my fanmade schools.
  • Polaris is called a College School, to avoid being called an Academy like many, many other academies in media.
  • Polaris is a combination of middle school, high school, university/college, and a Hunting Academy. I wanted to draw inspiration not only from Beacon, but from real -life high schools and universities/colleges.
