Team ARTE belongs to 4 different artists.
The comic is produced by BloodyRosalia.
Do not use or edit these characters without permission.

ARTE refers to both the OC team as well as the RWBY OC comic available on Webtoons and deviantArt.

Team ARTE (pronounced "Artery") is a team of four huntsmen that graduated Atlas Academy at the top of their class two years before the Fall of Beacon. The team is comprised of Aorta Flavus, Rokh Mikhail Chlorosis, Noelle Twilight, and Ebonille Reverie-Mortem.

ARTE has unexpectedly disbanded upon graduation, with each of its members located at various regions of Remnant. True to the team name, each member has an anatomy theme and is also a hobbyist or former artist in a different field, but has different reasons for becoming a Hunter/Huntress.

This RWBY fan-team was originally a collaboration team of persona OCs from 4 artists in 2016 before being given a full-color comic written and produced by BloodyRosalia on deviantArt in 2019 onwards. A webcomic version is also on Webtoons, produced starting 9/2020 after the completion of ARTE Episode 6.

To prevent spoilers from the comic, the team members will not have individual pages and information provided on this wikia page is limited.

Theme[]

"Ambitions and achievements will not absolve a path of blood.

Righteous reasons may render men to bones when realized,

Time tarnishes the talents of those with the toughest nerves, and

Emotions erode in exchange for excellence, but never thicker skin."

ARTE Dub Poster 2023

2023 project poster made following the completion of Vol. 1, with mention of a potential dub project.

Comic Project[]

When the team was formed in 2016, the only additional media created for it was a commemorative piece by BloodyRosalia in the same year. In the summer of 2019, BloodyRosalia launched a full-color comic project, "ARTE Volume 0."

Volume 0 officially began on May 23rd, 2019 and was produced in the span of 2 months. It features 4 episodes for a total of 42 pages. It also incorporates many of the images from the 2016 piece and the original collaborators have often contributed designs for their characters.

Volume 1 was slated to be produced in 2020, if the producer determines there is enough support. A campaign was started in August 2019 and from it, Episode 5 was completed during the winter of 2019 and spring 2020. Episode 6 followed in the summer, with the creator announcing a pause for comic pages due to school. The script for Episode 7-8 was released in December 2020 in anticipation that the comic had to be discontinued

The first half of Episode 7 was produced during the summer of 2021 when the Webtoons adaptation reached over 300 subscriptions. BloodyRosalia hopes to return to Vol. 1 sometime in 2022, citing that "peer pressure works."

The pages can be read as a webcomic on Webtoons or on deviantArt, saved to the gallery of a group named ARTE-of-RWBY. They have also been posted to Reddit.

Volume 0, "Loss"[]

ARTEVol0poster

Title poster of Vol. 0 of the comic. Original image and comic found on the creator's deviantArt page.

The plot of Vol. 0 acts mostly as a prologue to the main cast— the reasons they have separated and their motivations, to some extent.

Each episode of Vol. 0 is listed below. To read, follow the link to the page listing. Use the link on the page list to begin the episode (or click where you left off), and use the navigational links in the description section of each page.

Pages read left to right, top to bottom. Text is color coded for convenience.

The Volume 0 poster made at the eve of the project's first pages was split up to create "end card" artwork for Episodes 1 through 4. The fight depicted in this poster is not an actual event in the comic, but the angler Grimm later appears in Episode 5 of Volume 1.

ARTEEpi1

Episode 1 spans pages 1-9.

Read Episode 1: "Dreams"

Ebonille is a highly successful huntsman academy graduate who became one of the few to claim the rank of lieutenant in the Atlesian military at such a young age.

Yet, a bitterness distances her from her colleagues. With nobody to celebrate her achievement with, memories of a time past resurface, reminding her why she can no longer trust anyone.

ARTEepi2

Episode 2 spans pages 10-18.

Read Episode 2: "Heroism"

Although Rokh was a certified huntsman, he preferred his work as a treasure hunter. Interfering with the illegal activities of the local bandits and White Fang certainly kept him busy, but such victories felt empty.

For the diligent collector, perhaps all he ever did was gather the thoughts concerning the future he had run away from.

Episode 3 spans pages 19-29.

Read Episode 3: "Independence"

With Grimm knowing no mercy, it is ill-advised to hunt alone in Remnant. Yet Noelle faces the monsters on her own, with the confidence of an elite huntress.

However, even if her combat maneuvers are masterful, the weapons she had relied on for years have begun to fail. But she persists, as going back to Atlas was not an option.

ARTEepi4

Episode 4 spans pages 30-41. The episode ends on Vol. 0's Epilogue (page 42).

Read Episode 4: "Sacrifice"

When a team falls apart, the first person to be blamed is the leader. For Team ARTE, that would be Aorta, a seemingly fearless traveler hunting Grimm, journaling, and more recently, acting as a bodyguard.

When an old classmate complicates her recent job and sends her in a direction she doesn't want to go, the fears she had begin to resurface.

Volume 1, "Ties"[]

Volume 1 is also planned to be 4 episodes. The plot of Vol. 1 is set to continue and expand the present-day plot introduced at the end of Vol. 0, as suggested by the preview images released so far.

The status of Volume 1 was announced in this journal and a campaign was started in Aug 2019 for the support of Vol. 1’s production. As it was successful, Episode 5 was produced over the winter of 2019 and completed in July 2020. Episode 6 followed in next two months, with the script for Episodes 7-8 released at the end of 2020. Production of Episode 7 began took place over a year, from July of 2021 to 2022. Episode 8 was completed February 2023.

ARTEepi5

Episode 5 spans pages 43 through 56.

Read Episode 5: "Loyalty"

After leaving behind Atlas, Rey decided to walk the path of a vigilante, acting on his own sense of justice. Content with Beacon's demise, he had accepted a mission that would send him to his grave, or so he thought.

Either fate was playing tricks with him or there was something still left to be done.

ARTEEpisode6logo

Episode 6 spans pages 57 to 68.

Read Episode 6: "Retribution"

Who is Dinero? To most, he appears to be a wandering trader whose friendly face is rare in this chaotic world. Is that carefree poise reflective of his true nature, or is it maintained for business reasons? Such a question must always arise when dealing with strangers.

After all, a smile can mask the most hideous of intentions.

ArteEp7Logo

Episode 7 spans pages 69 to 82.

Read Episode 7: "Survival"

It has been months since Beacon's fall. Countless Huntsmen and Huntresses have been called into action as Remnant faces its largest upset in years.

With the CCT down, communication is limited by word of mouth and the occasional letters, and these messages can only describe so much.

Promises of seeing loved ones again never felt so empty.

ARTEEp8

Episode 8 spans page 83 to page 95.

Read Episode 8: "Celebration"

Teams do not always stay together. Huntsmen often remain in pairs following graduation or even venture alone.

Given the expanse and unpredictable dangers of Remnant, an unintentional reunion after years of separation would be nothing short of a miracle.

Especially if all members are present and well.

Members[]

[1]
Aorta Flavus ("ay-OR-tah") was designated team leader and the substitute class president in her final year at the Academy. She is an intermediate pianist with a penchant for writing.

Aorta is an all-around attacker, beginning as a gauntlet user before transitioning to her current Metallic Rotor Dust Rifle. She is flexible with her strategy, preferring to use (or burn) her environment rather than wasting energy. She has mastered her Semblance of Smoke Dematerialization but uses it primarily for evasion. Her education is just as expansive as her team's, but she was particular when studying Grimm species.

https://www.deviantart
[2]
Rokh Mikhail Chlorosis (“rock”) was regarded as the strongman of the team. He was the president of the martial arts club and well-known member of the Academy's painting group.

Rokh is primarily seen as the melee specialist on the team due to his use of gauntlets. While he is at his best in close ranges, his use of Wind Dust also lets him specializes in fighting large groups. His Semblance of Color Drainage doesn't do much for combat besides making him more efficient at using Dust. As the son of Atlas engineers, he is well-versed in weapon construction and maintenance.

https://www.deviantart
[3]

Noelle Twilight ("no-EL") was the tactician and Dust specialist of her team. As a former child actress, Noelle invested her free time in designer work for the performing arts.

Noelle is a jack-of-all trades, due to her weapon capable of taking twelve different shapes. She is the swiftest on her team and a particularly unpredictable combatant. Her Semblance of Mimicry is something she does not disclose, but plays a key part in her identity. Besides her uncanny ability to discern weaknesses, she also has the best social skills on the team.

https://www.deviantart
[4]

Ebonille Mortem-Reverie (“EH-bun-nill”) was the supporting fighter and intellectual of the team. She was once an avid crafter but pushed aside the hobby to scale Atlas' military ladder.

Ebonille was the key supporter and "stepladder" of the group, being able to conjure advantageous platforms using her Semblance of Crystal Manifestation. She is capable at any fighting range, but prefers to be efficient and lay traps when possible. Her chakrams utilize gravity and energy Dust, allowing her to disorient opponents. As the bookworm of the team, she was often relied upon for information during unfamiliar situations.

Ask the Cast Artblog[]

To celebrate the comic reaching its 50th page, an "Ask the Cast" project was started in mid-April, 2020. The original post with the rules and instructions was on DeviantArt, but was also shared to the Fanon's forum and RWBYOC Reddit.

Round 1 Answers from April-May 2020 were featured in 7 sets (Sets 0 to 6) and Round 2 answers from May 2020-2023 were featured in Sets 7-13. The results were posted to the project's gallery and the Webtoons.

Motifs & Allusions[]

Although Team ARTE formed as a simple collaboration persona OC team, much of the designs and future story elements are based on themes surrounding anatomy and allusions selected by their respective artist.

**WARNING: There are comic spoilers below, so please read the comic first!**

Anatomy[]

ARTEinitiation

Scene following initiation. Excerpt from Episode 4, page 35.

BloodyRosalia, having been the first to design a character, based her OC on the pre-medical student life she was familiar with, resulting in a character and eventual team using anatomy themes.

  • Blood Components
    • The aorta is the largest artery in the human body. Aorta's thematic blood component is the red blood cell and notably she wears a belt shaped as a line of red blood cells.
      • Red blood cells carry oxygen. Suffocation plays a factor in her episode.
    • Rokh's design has ideas from the white blood cell, part of the immune system. Such cells are born in the marrow of bones, and Rokh's anatomical system theme is the skeletal system.
    • Noelle's blood component theme is platelets, known to stop wounds by clots. Platelets are not cells, but rather just clones with clotting factors; repetition is a concept hated by Noelle.
    • Ebonille's blood component is plasma, the fluid that holds all the components together. Oddly enough, the other 3 teammates still split up after leaving Ebonille in Atlas.
  • Body Systems & Diseases
    • Aorta's theme is the circulatory system, as suggested by her first name and design as described above.
      • Aorta's last name, "Flavus" means yellow in Latin but alludes to a family of hemorrhagic viruses, to be detailed in the Penname section below.
      • Aorta's Semblance relates to artery disease, specifically how smoking is a major risk factor for coronary artery disease (ie. heart attacks).
    • Rokh's theme is the skeletal system, with bone motifs in his design.
      • His last name, Chlorosis, is a disease/condition that causes plants to lose color due to structural problems. It also refers to a type of anemia in adolescents.
      • Blood cancers such as leukemia, which take place in bones, often cause anemias (low red blood cells) and paleness as a result.
    • Noelle's theme is the nervous system, with memory playing a key role in her semblance.
      • Twilight syndrome comes from "Sun-downing" syndrome, which is a cognitive condition experienced by patients with diseases such as Alzheimer's.
      • "Christmas Disease" also refers to hemophilia type B (a type of deficiency in blood clotting ability).
    • Ebonille's theme is the skin, specifically bruises. One was seen in the first page of her episode.
      • Her full name, Ebonille Mortem-Reverie, refers to the Black Plague, in which scabs were a telling factor.
      • There is a type of anemia referred to as "Diamond Blackfan anemia," which coincidentally lines up with Ebonille's Semblance.

Storybook Allusions[]

  • Aorta is based on the Little Match Girl. Her signature weapon and the events of Episode 4 parallel the story, as well as her original name, "Matcha."
  • Rokh is based on the mythological bird, "Roc."
    • His weapon and emblem has feathers, and while he is not exactly a thief, his Demo story and current profession as a collector hints to it.
  • Noelle is based on the holiday carol, the First Noel. Her weapon is directly named "Christmas Carol."
    • Late in Episode 6 reveals a relative in her family named "Belle," referring to the "Carol of the Bells" or "Jingle Bells." Her mother is also revealed to be named "Holly Twinkle," further adding to the theme of starry carols (Holly and the Ivy, Twinkle Twinkle Little Stair).
  • Ebonille, with her name referring to the Black Plague, is also loosely based on the nursery rhyme "Ring Around the Rosie," using chakrams as her weapon.
    • Notably, this nursery rhyme also references "Rosie the Riveter" an icon for female action during World War II seen on many posters. The song related to it refers to a production line worker named Rosie that earned a "Production E" for her work. See section below regarding Ebonille's war theme.
ArteVol1Promo

Vol. 1 Promo artwork. A fifth character is depicted here, also part of the main cast, but not detailed on the wikia for spoiler reasons.

Two-Sided Artistry[]

Each member of ARTE has a hobby that they pursued before or during their Atlas Academy days. Each character is also paired with a darker art, as part of their episode theme.

  • As a musician turned writer, Aorta represents both the music and literary arts. Her episode references the art of murder.
  • As a painter and treasure hunter, Rokh represents the fine arts and the world of collectors. His episode ends with a call to the art of thievery.
  • Noelle was a former actress. Although she quit, she helps design some assets needed by those in the performing arts. Her episode battles with the art of forgery.
  • Ebonille liked crafts, working with knitting and jewelry. As the only member remaining at Atlas, she learned the art of war.

The Creator's Penname[]

ARTEgradpic

Graduation picture of Team ARTE. The image is the first of a sequence produced in 2016 from this larger image.

At the team's conception in 2016, there was no long-term project was planned for ARTE, thus the collaborators freely used their penname as an inspiration.

  • Aorta was based on the roots of BloodyRosalia's penname. The penname arose from a character named "Rosalia" in Trauma Team, a surgery simulator game from the Trauma Center Series.
    • The character is a natural host of a virus that causes a viral hemorrhagic fever. Real-life diseases classified as these belong to the family of Flaviviridae viruses, which include yellow fever. Hence Aorta’s last name being “Flavus.”
  • Rokh's creator has multiple names, including Quattron-Cyclone and mintfoxmimi. Regardless, Rokh's creator, who previously used bird motifs, applied one to Rokh as well, along with setting Rokh's default Dust element to be wind.
    • Rokh also prefers painting birds, as seen in the comic.
  • Noelle's creator used the penname "Winter-Edition" but was also known as Flora and ThanhnuFia.
    • Noelle has a strong Christmas theme, with her emblem resembling a poinsettia. Her actress alias was "Winty," referring to the winter season.
  • Ebonille's creator, BlissLioness (now BlissTheLioness) included "reverie" in the characters name to reflect the username.

Development[]

Teamartesketch

A sketch of a team poster by BloodyRosalia using the designs provided by the 3 other artists in the collab team.

The concept of a collaboration team was not born until after the first character, Aorta, was designed and published on deviantArt.

From there, the creator thought to recruit three other fellow artists from the Warriors of Remnant artbook series to form the collaboration team.

This RWBY fan-team became a team of persona OCs from 4 artists previously seen on the RWBY Fanon. In order of the team, the characters belong to and were designed by:

  1. BloodyRosalia, creator of SYRA and COTN
  2. mintfoxmimi, formerly quattron-cyclone, creator of KAZE and STAR
  3. winter-edition, creator of CIST and KEST
  4. BlissTheLioness, formerly BlissClouds, creator of PRDT
