Description: The tide is beautiful...but not yet real..still hard stone, still crystal.

Crystal Tide

Royal slowly let the clean refreshing water trickle through his fingers. He was in his natural habitat, a clean creek, almost a river. The wet rocks felt smooth to the touch, and small fish darted in and out every now and then.

Despite being 30, Royal didn't look much older than a teenager, maybe 20. So most people didn't take it that odd. He was currently living in a trailer next to a campsite. Surprisingly, he didn't sleep at Beacon, even though he did work there.

Right then, everything was calm. Serene.

Royal felt the water rise, twirling around his fingers, then his hand, and then his arm. He swirled the water up, around his body, before sending it into the air, where it fell back down in a glittering array of drops.

Royal whipped around. "Who's there?!" he shouted. He threw his combat jacket back on and walked around the side of the trailer. He heard a faint scuttling noise around the side of the trailer. It was slightly unnerving, and definitely creepy.

Royal walked around the side of the trailer, but there was nothing there. He climbed to the top.

Still nothing.

Royal looked under. Still nothing.

Suddenly, Royal whipped around to the left side of the trailer. There, scuttling, was one of the most terrifying creatures to have ever roamed remnant.

The Grimm Centipede.

The Night Runner.

The Night Runner's mandibles drooled saliva, dissolving the earth where it landed. It's hundred legs were scuttled and moved the massive bulbous body along at a frightening speed. The shiny black exoskeleton almost looked like armor.

Royal didn't even have time to react. He pulled out Star Tear and launched several volleys of concentrated water from it. They knocked the centipede back, slightly, but it avoided the rest, rushing at him with incredible speed.

The Night Runner's mouth was more then wide enough to swallow Royal whole, and Royal barely moved out of the way in time to avoid it's large head as it crashed into the ground, suddenly changing tactics and burrowing under, waiting for the right moment to strike.

Royal waited, unsure of his movements. Had the Grimm fled?

The monstrous head burst out of the ground, sending dirt and rocks spraying out, before circling Royal, wrapping it's coils around Royal, suffocating him.

The Night Runner circled tighter and tighter. Royal's ribs were about to split open when he called upon his semblance, the water rushing from the creek and hitting the Centipede square in the face, causing it to relinquish it's grip and fall on the ground.

Royal transformed Star Tear into pick-axe form and rushed forward, dealing several quick strikes to the head, before whipping around and undoing Star Tear's chain, wrapping it around the Night Runner's neck, choking it.

The Night Runner swerved this way and that eventually throwing Royal off. It prepared to ram into Royal again, just as Royal changed Star Tear into Scythe form and sliced one of the beast's mandible off.

The Night Runner hissed in pain and annoyance, diving back in, deflecting Royal's strikes with it's rock-hard armor.

Royal was tiring fast. This fight needed to be over and quickly. He barely had the strength to deflect the rest of the centipede's hits.

The Night Runner dived into the ground. Royal hated this game of hide and seek. He knew the Grimm was just toying with him, waiting for him to weaken, whereupon it would dive after it's prey.

Bursting out again, Royal looked to the side just as the insectoid armor rushed past him. There right at the nape of the centipede's neck, was an exposed piece of bone.

Royal began to form an idea.

As the Night Runner began to act again, Royal swung Star Tear around the Centipede's neck, allowing it to pull him forward. Once riding the beast, he hacked into the soft flesh between the armor, paralyzing it.

Finally, Royal called the creek to him, surrounding the Grimm with water. Bugs hate water, and the Grimm was no exception. Lifting the Grimm into the air, he slammed it down into the creek, again and again, until the massive bug was finally dead.

Royal gasped for breath, retrieving Star Tear. He barely had time to stand up when a shop keeper in a large truck pulled up.

"Message for Royal Aquaberry! Message for Royal Aquaberry!"

Royal turned to the sound of the noise, as the messenger gave him a single letter. Royal looked over it quickly.

Dear Royal,

If you're reading this, chances are, someone has sent someone, or something to kill you. This is not a coincidence. Someone wants to get rid of of us. I believe it may be my former master. Meet me at where this all began. The others will be there.

At the bottom of the note, there was a wax seal with a very familiar symbol.

Hǎiyáng's Emblem

He had to return to Beacon Academy.
