Appearance[]

On top of his frizzy dark chin-length hair he usually keeps in a loose knot on the back of his head, Cerulean is always seen wearing a pair of large wireless over-ear headphones with pale blue cups (with his emblem on both sides in black) either around his neck or on his ears. He normally wears a simple waist-length black wool coat with a white fur collar and silver metal buttons over a plain white long-sleeved t-shirt, dark washed skinny jeans, and midnight blue suede oxfords. In combat, he wears a pale blue and black iron Japanese-style lamellar armor cuirass under his coat and over his shirt and wraps blue cloth around his palms. When wearing his school uniform, he tends to roll up the sleeves of his jacket and shirt and dons a pair of black horn-rimmed reading glasses.

Personality[]

Generally gentle and relaxed, Cerulean grew up a quiet and quirky child uneasy about Atlas and without many friends until he moved to Vale to train at Beacon, where he soon become more open and even funnily sarcastic once he met his team. Despite his sarcastic outward personality, Cerulean is deeply passionate and cares a great deal about his friends' well being. Considered a rock of empathy and kindness by his team, they respect him more than he knows. He is also the moral backbone of his team, having a sophisticated and existentially philosophical outlook on life, this perhaps being the reason Professor Ozpin made him the leader of Team CPRW. Considering his past and the tragedies he has seen firsthand, Cerulean adopts a personal code of taking the good with the bad and not dwelling on either, in case of denial or hopelessness. He deeply values art and expression and likes to take time to recognize the freedom and fulfillment it signifies. Because of his kind and thoughtful personality, he is usually not quick to a fight, trying to avoid unnecessary bloodshed.

Backstory[]

Cerulean was born and raised by supportive civilian parents in Atlas, a place where he never felt comfortable, due to the solemn and often depressing air of the military's presence. Walking home one day when he was eleven, he entered an alley way to find a group of Atlas military soldiers assaulting a couple. Intervening, he was immediately beaten for "disturbing military procedure," receiving a thin dark scar across his left eyebrow that he still has. After that, refusing to let the world be corrupted by the darkness of man and Grimm alike, he made the decision to become a huntsman, training at an Atlas combat academy. However, fearful of the military's influence on the academies, he moved to Vale to train at Beacon, adopting a personal guideline of only using his abilities when absolutely necessary, his scar reminding him what abuse of power can become. After the fall of Beacon, Cerulean, having personally saved a group of young children from the invading Grimm with Wulf, traveled to Mistral and enrolled at Haven with his teammates.

Relationships[]

Robin Dawn - Robin is both Cerulean's partner and significant other. Cerulean adores Robin for her quick wit and intense curiosity, which has rubbed off on him a mild amount since their meeting.

Poppy Wilde - Cerulean's teammate. Poppy's party girl attitude and flexible morals are a stark contrast to his gentler sensibilities. Contrary to this fact, however, Cerulean and Poppy get along well, Cerulean liking her easy-going nature, even if he does see her as a bit misguided.

Wulf Schwarzwald - Cerulean's teammate. Cerulean secretly dislikes Wulf a small amount, due to Wulf's simplistic and black and white personal philosophy. They get along alright, if only because of a great deal of toleration of Cerulean's part. Still, he is warming up to Wulf and appreciates his genuine drive to help people.

Weapon[]

The Mortal Coil Mk. 27, at first glance, appears to be nothing more than a 3'6" black and silver metal pole and is little more than that to those other than Cerulean, who is the only person that can practically use it. This is due to the fact that Cerulean's electrical semblance activates the weapon through minuscule targeted shocking of specific circuits, controlling all its functions. Once activated, it has three usable forms. In its first form, the first of the two 3' increments of the narrow 6' single-edged blade concealed inside is extended from the top of the pole, making it a long-handled nagamaki. In its second form, the pole handle shortens to 2' and the blade is fully extended, making the weapon into an extremely long odachi. In the final and third form, the blade splits into a long bladed whip, through a thin metal cord that runs through the back of it. The whip form of the weapon utilizes Cerulean's semblance to send medium voltage electric shocks to whatever it comes in contact with. However, due to his personal beliefs, Cerulean only uses the whip form in dire situations or when he knows he is being beaten. The bottom end of the handle conceals a small firearm that fires propellant dust pellets, allowing Cerulean quick bursts of speed. The long reach and design of the Mortal Coil Mk. 27 make Cerulean primarily effective as a close to mid range fighter, closing long distances with the propellant on the bottom end. Due to his weapon having such a long reach, Cerulean is also trained in taekwondo-style martial arts he uses when his opponent gets within very close distance to him and his weapon is ineffective.

Semblance[]

Cerulean activates his semblance by putting on his headphones. His semblance, Frisson Field, allows him to warp electricity from dust hidden inside the headphones as a high voltage electric field around his body. This allows him to discharge electricity from the whip form of his weapon and even release arcs of lightning from his body, although he usually only does this as a last resort that drains him of his aura. However, when active, Frisson Field gives Cerulean a major susceptibility to foreign magnetic fields, due to the electric field around him having strong electromagnetic properties.

Emblem[]

A simple circular ouroboros with lightning-bolt like stripes running across its body.

Trivia[]

  • Cerulean is a rich blue pigment invented to mimic the color of the sky.
