Brand Ignis is a member of team ABCT and the partner of team leader Auriela Aquila. Orphaned on the streets of Vacuo, he was taken in by the blacksmith Cole Ignis. After being scouted by Roderik Aquila he moved to Mistral to attend Haven Academy.

black sleeveless trench coat with a rich red internal colouring over the top of
an amber singlet. He wears a bronze forearm guard while a bronze neck guard
hangs loosely around his neck. Two spare gas canisters hang from a dark leather
belt on his left side as well as a large key-chain with an anvil emblem. The
same emblem is branded onto his left shoulder. He wears Dark grey jeans with
bronze knee-high shin guards strapped to both legs. His shoes are bright red.
His hair is reddish-brown (more red) and tied back with a leather band
haphazardly leaving a few stray strands to fall against his head and stick out.
Additionally has a singular spiked goatee.
Personality[]
Brand is a carefree sort of guy, unfazed by even the
strangest things the world has to offer. To the others he is the father figure
of the team, always available to give support or a hand when the others need
help. He has a dry sense of humour adept at abating the turmoil between Auriela
and Twilight and lightening even seemingly impossible situations. He holds a
tenacious hope that Auriela and Twilight will one day put aside their
differences and become friends. This hope extends to the world around him and
extends from his rough up-bringing in the harsh landscapes of Vacuo. Despite
this naiveté he has a good eye for value and always seems to get a good price
for his and his teams purchases, which comes in handy during the meek Cesira’s
shopping trips.
In battle he is courageous bordering on
foolhardy and often jeopardizes the careful planning made by Twilight with his
confidence and bravado. This never ceases to frustrate Twilight who has had to
come to accept this aspect. Regardless of this he watches out for his friends
and team-mates and is an excellent companion to have in a tight spot. He
greatly respects Auriela’s father Roderik and in extension Auriela herself. The
two of them have known each other for 4 years, in which time Brand has taken a
liking to the ambitious and fiery young girl, treating her as a little sister
and calling her Ella.
History[]
Brand was orphaned on the streets of Vacuo when he was taken
in by his foster father, Cole Ignis, the owner of a small time blacksmith
specialising in custom weapon and armour jobs. He was brought up with the tools
of a blacksmith from the age of 6 and was originally going to be the heir to
the business. However at the age of 11 he was scouted by a Hunter from Mistral,
who, after observing his well-honed strength and focus, saw promise in the young
boy. For the next 3 years Roderick would visit Brand, honing the boys strength and skill, while providing him with a regular training schedule. Once each year Roderick would take Brand into the desert on week long survival treks. At the end of his third trek Roderick deemed Brand ready for formal training, deciding to take the young boy back to Mistral with him the next time he left. As a parting gift Cole gifted his foster son a special key-chain so that
he may never forget his past and his home. To this day Brand carries it as the
symbol of his devotion to the defence of Remnant.
Rather than enter him into the academy, the hunter, who had
introduced himself as Roderik, took him into his own home in order to train the
14 year old. He was provided with a small workshop with which to work on his blacksmithing and was instructed to earn his own living, with minimal support from the Aquila family. When not working, Brand would spar with Roderick or spend time developing his personal collection of combat arms. This continued until the age of 17, when Roderik dubbed Brand fit
to enter the academy. During this time he met Roderiks daughter Auriela when
she was home from the prep-academy. Brand would train with Auriela and Roderik
during the day and Auriela would allow Brand to read her notes from the academy
in the evenings. In this way Brand began to train not just his body but also
his mind.
Brand entered the academy a year older than his
peers before becoming a part of team ABCT, where he met Cesira and Twilight for
the first time.
Abilities[]
Semblance[]
Salamander renders Brand fully retardant to flames, allowing
him to handle his flamethrower without the need for protective gear. This also
allows him to wreath himself in fire in order to defend himself from enemies
and move freely through the walls of flames unhindered.
Combat[]
Twin Suns (Pyrokinetic Circular Saw Axe)- Brands fire retardant semblance allows him to
make full and unhindered use of his flamethrower. He creates walls of fire to
obstruct combat and viewing angles allowing himself and the rest of the team to
flank and ambush there enemies safely and effectively. Additionally burners
near the saw blades create spinning whirlwinds of fire that can be directed at
enemies with powerful swings of the axe. Brand has an advanced level of physical strength
stemming from his years of work at the forge, allowing him to swing the axe form with ease.
Blacksmithing[]
Brought up as a blacksmith by his foster father, he is
capable of smithing high quality gear. He is responsible for the maintenance and construction of his team mates gear.
- Brand
is not as traditionally smart as the rest of his team, and is often slow on the
uptake when it comes to theory. This often gets him into tough situations
stemming from knowledge that he should have learnt in the classroom, particular
when encountering Grimm.
- Brand tends to be overconfident when it comes to combat, leading to him often becoming surrounded or getting him into potentially dangerous situations.
Trivia[]
- His personality is derived from one of Hippocrates four Humours,
Sanguine. This represents courage, hope and a carefree nature.
