Appearance[]

Altan is a tall, slenderly built man with a decent amount of muscle wrapping his frame gained from eating healthily and exercising regularly.

His hair is a sandy shade of blonde and his eyes are a vibrant shade of green. His chin and jaw are very rounded, giving his head a somewhat oval shape. Altan has short facial hair, and it follows close to his jawline in the form of side-burns that seem to attach to the large pair of cat-like ears that sprout from his head. Whenever he's not working, his usual attire consist of a blood red bandana tied around his neck, an off-white linen t-shirt, jeans, and shin high cowboy boots. The belt he wears has a pouch on the right side for his scroll and other small affects.

His combat attire is a red bodysuit with ceramic plates attached to the thighs and pectorals, and with rigid padding on the shoulders. There are hardpoints on the forearms, biceps, and the back of the neck that provide the interface points for the Crysys suits. It doubles as a work-suit for when he's performing maintenance or otherwise working.

Personality[]

Altan is an exceptionally kind and humble person. He has great difficulty accepting praise for almost anything he has worked co-operatively on, and generally prefers to stand quietly in the wings whilst someone else gets their moment in the spotlight. His capacity to focus on work is so incredible that people who come across him often earn themselves startled looks when they shake Altan out of his zone. Such a thing in itself is difficult though given how he becomes completely ignorant of his surroundings when he's working.

Whilst he tries his hardest to be easygoing, and often appears that way, he is usually worried about the smaller details of whatever he's doing to the point that it is far from rare for him to be seen working for days on end in order to address and fix such worries. He enjoys getting back to the farmlands in the south of Vale for a break from the stressful bustle of the city, and to visit his parents.

He enjoys going to bars with friends. Nowhere fancy or particularly high brow, just clean basement dives with a warm hearth and a pleasant atmosphere, and hates it when such spaces are occupied by loud or obnoxious people. Such a thing hasn't done much to improve on his smoking habit which began back when he attended College, and one that he continues to enjoy to this day.

History[]

Born into a family of faunus farmers in the southern agricultural district of Vale, Altan exhibited signs of higher than average intelligence from a young age. After he had started in Elementary School, Altan took a keen interest in some of the machines used to make work on the farm easier. His father - surprised and rather pleased by his sons curiousity - started to teach him about the engines and the different, smaller parts that worked together to make the whole system work as one. He was clearly very talented with machinery, and his exceptional inteligence made it clear that he had a bright future ahead of him, far from his parents farm.

He was top of his class in middle school and high school, earning the respect of some of his peers but the jealousy of many more. There were no recorded physcial fights, Altan simply ignored their goading attempts to draw him in and make him throw the first punch. As time went on, the abuse simply stuck to verbal insults and racial slurs. Despite this, he still managed to graduate as one of the top students of his year.

His talent for physics and engineering earned him a scholarship to a college in Vale to study for a Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering along with several other minor courses in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, and Physics. Even with the scholarship, his parents took a significant amount out of their savings and gave it to their son, wishing for him to do his very best.

His college years went by easily, though he did develop a nasty habit of leaving extremely important coursework unstarted right up to the last possible second, for the sake of ‘taking things easy’, as he put it many times to his roommate and then boyfriend. This meant he was often awake for days at a time in order to complete it. An exception to his ‘taking it easy’ would be when he discovered Krav-maga in his first year of College. Coming across a group practicing in a somewhat quiet area of campus, Altan was quickly enthralled by it and asked to train with them. In the end, he spent a decent amount of his time outwith class practicing, helping to maintain a good physical condition, and by the time of his graduation, he had - for all intents and purposes - mastered the form.

After graduating college aged 24, Altan worked as a freelance mechanic for about a year before he was picked up by a shadowy organisation that simply refferred to itself as Third Echo. From what Altan gathered, it was a privately owned security company that specialised in clandestine operations as well as the Research & Development of technologies for both civilian and military use. Altan was put into Third Echos R&D division as one of three assistant designers, and the primary test pilot for the Advanced Infantry Mech Project, or AIM for short. Two years after joining the project, the team had it’s first major breakthrough with the Type-25 Crysys Prototype. With incredibly results during shakedown testing, an addition four units were timetabled for construction. Altan received high praise for his groundbreaking design, and though he humbly accepted such kind words he did point out that all he did was provide the mechanical know-how to the project, Professor Ostry - the projects leader - and his student Jasmine were the ones who actually made the difference with the construction of the Crystal System.

Though it was initially difficult for him with his newly unlocked aura - the vital component in the Crysys - it was soon discovered that he had much of it, easily placing him third best out of the five test pilots for the Crysys prototypes by simple dint of endurance. Since its realisation, Altan has taken part in dozens of live fire simulation sorties in addition to over twenty combat missions against Grimm in the wildlands surrounding Vale. He never knew his life would turn out like this, but if there is one thing he does know it is that he very much enjoys it.

Equipment[]

'Hacked' Scroll[]

A common communications device with cracked hardware and software, giving Altan access to deep-web search engines and the ability to bypass most standard firewalls. Whilst such a tool surely belongs in the hands of a secret agent or something along those lines, all Altan uses it for is the secure access of research - and staying in well encrypted contact with Third Echo.

T-25-01 CRYSYS AIM 'Red Dawn'[]

The first completed Crysys AIM painted in red with gold highlights that Altan was asked to pilot, a duty that he accepted with enthusiam. The suit is two meters in length and width, and stands at approximately four and a half meters high, making it rather diminutive in comparison to other bipedal armour systems such as the Elysium Paladin. Despite it's size, the Crysys AIM is capable of lifting almost a tonne in dead weight and a maximum speed of about fifty miles per hour, though such speed is only achieved at the lack of heavy armour. This is only amplified by Altans personal preferences. The removal of the auto-balance system allows for faster reaction times without the split-second lag for the onboard computer to calculate how to keep the suit upright, the drawback of this being that the Red Dawn can be knocked over with a little more ease if Altan does not make the necessary corrections. In additiong to the removal of the auto-balancer, a directed-thrust pack was installed above the standard Crystal System. The pack utilises wind dust crystals installed alongside the default array, giving the Red Dawn the ability to perform evasive 'hops', rapid changes in direction, and the ability to jump exceptionally large distances at a time.

Altans preferred weapon loadout for the Red Dawn is a high-yield industrial pulse laser on the right bracer hardpoint - capable of burning through half a centimeter of solid steel and more if a surface continually exposed or the beam is focused down to a point - and a pneumatic punch-blade on the left bracer hardpoint which can be utilised for both regular stabs and slashes, but also an extended stab using the pneumatic system to deliver almost three kilonewtons of force. In addition to these, IR chaff launchers are attached to the shoulder hardpoints which both obscure the Red Dawn physically and makes it undetecable to heat and night vision. This causes the Red Dawn to be perfectly suited towards guerilla tactics, striking quickly and inflicting a lot of damage before an enemy force can muster a response. As a backup in case of primary weapons failure, the Red Dawn is also equipped with an upscaled service pistol and four clips of nine rounds including the one in the chamber.

Perhaps the greatest flaw of the Crysys is the total reliance on a human or faunus component. By it's nature, the Crystal System - the generator that provides the AIM with the power to move amongst other things - requires the aura of a living being to function. In addition to said Aura being used to provide an extra layer of near impervious armour to the suits, these facts made the Crysys a remarkably hard sell when the design was first pitched given that it would rely on having pilots with large pools of Aura, and even then severly limit the operations time of the AIM's to approximately an hour and significantly less in more intense combat environments. Such refinements to the design are currently being researched by Altan Cornell and the other staff of the AIM project.

It should be noted that the existence of the Crysys AIM's is not public knowledge and nor is it operated in view of civillians that have not signed incredibly strict NDA's.

Fighting style[]

When operating the Red Dawn, Altan is an incredibly diverse fighter. Having no traditional combat training save for his Krav-Maga, he falls back on the baser instinct of fighting until he's the last man standing or forced to withdraw from the area. This usually manifests in a what observers would call a chaotic, unorthodox medley of both close quarters and ranged combat. He rarely uses the same tactic twice in a row, no matter how effective it may prove, always seeking to change and adapt whilst also never giving his foes a chance to adapt to his own moves. Despite this, he is far from sparing in the use of IR chaff and other ways to obscure his enemies view of the Red Dawn, a move that often proves wise and highly effective.

As of yet, no semblance has became apparent during both his training of aura and the combat he has seen inside the Crysys.

Trivia[]

- Altans name is both Turkish for "Red Dawn" and Mongolian for Gold. Cornell is also a shade of red.
