Albert is one of, if not, the largest first year student at Beacon. He stands at 6'8" and weighs in at 281 lbs. His physique is equal parts muscle and fat, most of the muscle in his arms and chest. He has dark brown skin, smoky grey eyes, and short black hair he wears at almost crew-cut length.

His usual attire in combat looks more like he works as a handyman. He wears a grey long sleeve shirt, collar unbuttoned and sleeves rolled up to his mid-forearms. Over that is a pair of worn-out blue overalls that tuck into his grey and black workboots.

History[]

Albert was born on the borderline of Vale and Vacuo in a town called Junction. Being a huge transportation hub and key trade route, many people who lived in the town worked for the railroad, including both his parents. His mother worked in the rail signal tower  on the eastern side of the city while his father did track maintenance. Albert's dad was known to be one of the quickest track-layers in the business, and held the world record for fastest fastening of a railroad tie manually. This was later challenged by an inventor who boasted his Dust-powered drill could fasten ties to rails twice as quickly as any Human or Faunus that had ever worked on the railroad.

Accepting the challenge, Albert, who was a pre-teen about to enroll in Torch Academy at the time, was excited to see his dad put this arrogant city boy in his place. Unfortunately, days before the event, an on-site accident left his father's dominant hand mangled, and forced him into early retirement. The drill inventor boasted how his opponent couldn't even last long enough to pass the challenge to the people of Junction, and began convincing railroad managers to take interest in his drill, as it would be a much safer alternative to hammering spikes down.

Albert didn't take kindly to the inventor's boasting, and announced he would take his dad's place. While his parents tried to get him to back out, the inventor accepted his challenge. If Albert won, he'd take his business elsewhere and never show his face in Junction again. If Albert lost, the railroad would cut half their track maintenance labor force for the use of this dust-powered drill.

The day of the event was one of the hottest on record for Junction. Each challenger would take one side of the track each, and whoever could fasten 500 tie brackets first would be declared the winner. The drill inventor took an early lead, but Albert surprised everyone with how he didn't trail far behind. Almost towards the end, the heat caused the inventor's drill to overheat and break, but Albert powered through and won the challenge, passing out from heatstroke at the end.

Once he recovered, Albert took his dad's place on the track maintenance team for the railroad team while also keeping up with his studies at Torch Academy. His instructors took note if his dedication to both school and rail work and his perseverance throughout it all, and specially rewarded the boy upon graduation with a chance to train at Beacon Academy; a chance Albert took in a heartbeat.

Trivia[]

  • Albert's full name is a play on words of the word "Alleghenny", which is both a mountain range in Pennsylvania and other surrounding US states, and also refers to a large class of steam locomotives used to pull heavy freight on the Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad.
  • The name "Ghenny", in terms of personality assessment, pegs someone as a hardworking individual who rarely takes shortcuts, is quick and efficient, and an active person with a dynamic personality.
  • Albert is based off folktale character, John Henry, who worked on building railroads and was quick enough to beat a steam powered drill at fastening down railroad spikes with just his might and a sledgehammer.
  • Steel Driver, the name of Albert's weapon, was a term to describe tracklayers back during the construction of railroads in the late 19th to early 20th century.
  • Although people like giving him nicknames like Big Al, he prefers his full name. He's just to nice to say anything about it.
